A suspected outbreak of norovirus shuttered a Fort Worth middle school on Friday, according to the Tarrant County Public Health Department.<\/p>\n
Creekview Middle School, which is located in Fort Worth but is part of the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw Independent School District, closed Friday to \u201callow for further disinfecting in alignment with public health guidelines,\u201d the district said in a media release.<\/p>\n
The school district has been in contact with Tarrant County Public Health<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cNorovirus activity in the community appears to be high,\u201d health department officials wrote in an advisory to health care providers.<\/p>\n On Wednesday, Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD \u201cnotified TCPH of many students experiencing acute gastrointestinal illness at Creekview Middle School,\u201d the advisory states. \u201cCurrent reported symptoms include 108 students with vomiting, 46 with nausea, 7 with diarrhea, 15 with stomachache, and only 1 with fever (categories are not mutually exclusive). This pattern is highly consistent with norovirus, which typically presents with sudden onset vomiting, limited fever, and short-duration illness.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWith increased community activity other outbreaks may occur in groups settings like schools, shelters, childcare, hospitals and long-term care facilities,\u201d the advisory states.<\/p>\n All other EMS ISD campuses remained open Friday, and Creekview is expected to return to its usual schedule on Monday<\/a>, March 2.<\/p>\n Related Stories from Fort Worth Star-Telegram<\/p>\n
