A San Antonio man was detained by an off-duty officer on Friday, after the fatal shooting of another individual<\/a> on the city’s West Side, according to the San Antonio Police Department<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At around 3:40 p.m. on Friday, February 27, authorities were called to the intersection of Zarzamora Street and West Commerce Street for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, preliminary information released by the department stated that witnesses saw some kind of verbal altercation between the two men as they were exiting a bus.<\/p>\n

As their argument continued to intensify, the suspect, a 26-year-old man, allegedly drew a firearm on the other man before firing off several rounds at him. Witnesses at the scene say he fired off at least four shots before running across the street. That’s when, according to the SAPD, an off-duty police officer intervened after hearing the gunshots nearby.<\/p>\n

The officer reportedly\u00a0detained the suspect until SAPD arrived, the report states. The 26-year-old man is currently being held for questioning.<\/p>\n

The shooting victim, a 40-year-old, was immediately transported to a nearby hospital where he eventually succumbed to his injuries, authorities revealed. He has since then pronounced deceased.<\/p>\n

An update by KENS<\/a> on Saturday stated that the Dilley Police Department had one of their patrol officers working on an off-duty capacity on Friday as a Texas peace officer when the shooting occurred.<\/p>\n

SAPD have stated that this is an active and ongoing investigation with information subject to change.<\/p>\n
