(KGNS) – The United States and Israel launched \u201cOperation Epic Fury\u201d targeting Iran overnight into Saturday, Feb. 28. Iran responded with multiple missile and drone strikes across the Middle East.<\/p>\n
In a video statement, President Donald Trump used the word \u201cwar\u201d to describe the operations. The power to declare war on another country resides with the U.S. Congress, according to the Constitution.<\/p>\n
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz released a statement on social media saying, \u201cthe Iranian regime has been terrorizing and murdering Americans for 47 years,\u201d and \u201ctoday\u2019s action will enhance the national security of the United States and our allies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Congressman Henry Cuellar said in a statement, \u201cA regime that has spent decades funding terror, targeting American troops, threatening our allies, and killing its own people cannot be allowed to possess the most destructive weapon on Earth.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe threat posed by Tehran is real and longstanding. Iran must never obtain a nuclear weapon. A regime that has spent decades funding terror, targeting American troops, threatening our allies, and killing its own people cannot be allowed to possess the most destructive weapon on Earth. We have seen the courage of the Iranian people demanding freedom, and we have seen the regime respond with brutality.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Constitution gives Congress the authority to declare war and sustain military operations. In any extended engagement, that role must be exercised. The administration must immediately brief the full Congress and clearly explain the scope, strategy, and expected duration of this operation.<\/p>\n
