When you think of massive youth baseball tournaments, your mind probably goes straight to Williamsport.<\/p>\n
But this weekend, it\u2019s right here in Houston.<\/p>\n
Fields all across the city are buzzing with energy as more than a thousand teams roll into town for the Houston 1000 Super NIT \u2014 a tournament many consider the \u201cgrandaddy\u201d of select youth baseball.<\/p>\n
Big Smiles, Big Dreams<\/p>\n
In spots like Conroe, you\u2019ll find teams like the Texas Monarchs from Fort Bend County getting ready to take the field \u2014 all smiles before the first pitch.<\/p>\n
1,017 teams are part of this year\u2019s tournament. Players are coming from all over the nation– 42 different states. <\/p>\n
Even international squads are coming from countries like Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Bonaire.<\/p>\n
Altogether, that\u2019s more than 11,000 kids, ages 6 to 14, looking to take home a title in several brackets on Sunday night. <\/p>\n
A Win Off the Field Too<\/p>\n
This isn\u2019t just a big moment for young players \u2014 it\u2019s a big deal for Houston.<\/p>\n
According to Perfect Game USA, the tournament is expected to bring in more than $10 million for the local economy. That means packed hotels, busy restaurants, and a major boost for businesses across the region.<\/p>\n
