ABILENE, Texas (KTAB\/KRBC<\/a>) \u2013 Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock toured Texas State Technical College\u2019s Abilene campus Thursday to highlight the state\u2019s Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) initiative, which aims to give parents more options in their children\u2019s education.<\/p>\n

During the visit, Hancock explored several hands-on training areas, including HVAC and plumbing labs. He met with students and instructors, gaining insight into the practical skills programs that prepare graduates for in-demand technical careers.<\/p>\n

Hancock stressed that the TEFA program is designed to expand educational opportunities, allowing families to choose paths that align with their children\u2019s interests and career goals. As the program\u2019s overseeing authority, the Comptroller\u2019s Office will ensure it supports students and families statewide.<\/p>\n

\u201cReally does open up those educational freedoms, creates a little competition which helps everybody improve. That\u2019s really what we\u2019re looking for, is overall improvement in the education, quality of education across the state of Texas,\u201d Hancock said.<\/p>\n

Hancock has also visited other TSTC campuses, highlighting the benefits of TEFA and engaging with students in hands-on learning programs as part of Hancock\u2019s broader outreach across the state.<\/p>\n
