{"id":186018,"date":"2026-03-01T22:36:06","date_gmt":"2026-03-01T22:36:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/186018\/"},"modified":"2026-03-01T22:36:06","modified_gmt":"2026-03-01T22:36:06","slug":"fort-worth-shows-out-sunday-as-tcu-welcomes-college-gameday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/186018\/","title":{"rendered":"Fort Worth shows out Sunday as TCU welcomes College GameDay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It was another historic day for TCU women\u2019s basketball as the program hosted ESPN College GameDay on Sunday morning at <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/sports\/college\/big-12\/texas-christian-university\/article314835418.html\">Schollmaier Arena<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It was the first time GameDay had visited Fort Worth for <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/sports\/college\/big-12\/texas-christian-university\/article314880679.html\">college basketball as the 11th-ranked Horned Frogs<\/a> will take on rival No. 18 Baylor at 3 p.m. Sunday for the outright Big 12 championship. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/sports\/college\/big-12\/texas-christian-university\/article314863780.html\">TCU<\/a> already clinched a share of the title on Wednesday after defeating Cincinnati.<\/p>\n<p>It was a solid turnout at Schollmaier Arena as students and other fans filled the lower bowl behind <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/sports\/college\/big-12\/texas-christian-university\/article314796664.html\">ESPN analysts Andraya Carter and Chiney Ogwumike<\/a> and made their voices heard throughout the broadcast.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the ESPN hosts praised the energy provided by TCU fans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFort Worth showed out, the student body showed up,\u201d TCU head coach Mark Campbell said. \u201cCollege GameDay just went out there and said it\u2019s the best environment they\u2019ve had so far this year. None                                                                            amccoy@star-telegram.com                                                                                        <\/p>\n<p>When Campbell took over before the 2023 season, the thought of hosting GameDay over established programs like South Carolina and Tennessee would\u2019ve been considered a long shot.<\/p>\n<p>Even the Horned Frogs star forward Marta Suarez didn\u2019t think GameDay would be a possibility when she signed with TCU this offseason.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t think that at all, but just being here I\u2019m full of joy and gratitude right now,\u201d Suarez said during the show. \u201cI was just talking to my teammate (Veronica Sheffey) about how crazy it is that we\u2019re here. This opportunity was amazing and the turnout that we had, the community showing up, the students showing up and meeting the girls from College GameDay, it was so fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Suarez had a chance to speak directly to the home fans along with Campbell and having that moment meant a lot to the Cal transfer. Despite being in Fort Worth for just one season, Suarez already holds a tight connection to the Fort Worth community that was only strengthened by the fan support at GameDay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love it, I can\u2019t believe a place has had an impact on me in such a few months,\u201d Suarez said. \u201cI\u2019m excited for the future and I want to be rooted here and have people know that I\u2019m here, and I\u2019m for the community and I love this place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Suarez and Campbell had their moments, Olivia Miles was the star of the show. Wooden watch list, annually given to the best player in college basketball, along with UConn\u2019s Sarah Strong.<\/p>\n<p>Miles and TCU even went a step further by gifting some boots to the ESPN desk in true Texas fashion.<\/p>\n<p>As fun as the morning was, it was also a reminder of just how far the program has come. None                                                                            amccoy@star-telegram.com                                                                                        <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the biggest stage in college basketball,\u201d Campbell said. \u201cFor them to pick Fort Worth and TCU on the final weekend of college basketball is the greatest testament to what we\u2019ve built and how far we\u2019ve come. It shows last year wasn\u2019t a fluke. To win back-to-back Big 12 titles is hard to do and rare and special.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlayers have changed, but the standard hasn\u2019t.
