{"id":186983,"date":"2026-03-02T17:02:26","date_gmt":"2026-03-02T17:02:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/186983\/"},"modified":"2026-03-02T17:02:26","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T17:02:26","slug":"lubbock-senior-volunteers-honored-with-presidents-lifetime-achievement-award-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/186983\/","title":{"rendered":"Lubbock senior volunteers honored with President\u2019s Lifetime Achievement Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) &#8211; Eight people were honored Saturday at an award ceremony recognizing senior volunteers who have completed more than 4,000 hours of service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Lubbock Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, sponsored by the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center\u2019s Garrison Institute on Aging, presented recipients with the President\u2019s Lifetime Achievement Award. The eight honorees join 14 others who have received the award since 2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The award typically includes a certificate signed by the president and a Presidential Seal banner. This year, the Lubbock RSVP was unable to receive those materials due to a government shutdown. In their place, recipients received a proclamation from Sen. John Cornyn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Volunteering as a prescription<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Joan Blackmon with the Lubbock RSVP said the organization\u2019s goal extends beyond the award ceremony.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThere is a lot of times when people retire, but it\u2019s not what they thought it would be, they can\u2019t just sit and do nothing, they want to have a purpose and many of them do, but a lot don\u2019t,\u201d Blackmon said. \u201cI\u2019ve had a person come and call me and say \u2018I have a prescription.\u2019 I said \u2018Oh ma\u2019am I\u2019m not the pharmacy, let me get you that number.\u2019 She said \u2018no my doctor wrote a prescription and said you need to start volunteering.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 KCBD.
