EL PASO, Texas (KTSM<\/a>) \u2014 Headlining the local races in the Texas primary are two seats on the El Paso County Commissioners Court.<\/p>\n

Two incumbent County commissioners are facing challenges in the Texas primary on Tuesday, March 3.<\/p>\n

Election Guide: El Paso County votes in Texas primary <\/a><\/p>\n

In Precinct 2, incumbent David Stout is facing a challenge within his party from Miguel \u201cMike\u201d Teran.<\/p>\n

Stout has been in office since 2015. He previously served as a staffer for former Texas state Sen. Jose Rodriguez and has a background in broadcast journalism.<\/p>\n

Teran has served as director for El Paso County Water Improvement District 1 since 2005.<\/p>\n

Matt Sistrunk is running unopposed in Precinct 2 on the GOP side.<\/p>\n

The Precinct 2 race has been getting heated.<\/p>\n

Stout called a news conference on Monday, the day before the election, to say that his opponent, Teran, had espoused conducting a campaign of accountability and transparency but \u201chas a difficult time living up to those words.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHis campaign finance reports are rife with misrepresentations of his income and expenditures. He has been photographed illegally electioneering at polling stations and he has made numerous false and misleading statements to the press as well as his campaign propaganda regarding my record,\u201d Stout said.<\/p>\n

Stout said that Teran used a fake AI-generated image \u201cof me on campaign materials which is something that is increasingly done by anti-Democratic actors like President Trump and his ilk.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAcross the nation, we have seen how disinformation and dishonesty are breaking the rules in politics and really damages public trust,\u201d Stout said.<\/p>\n

Teran responded to Stout\u2019s claims by arguing he\u2019s ran a clean campaign centered on facts.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always carried a clean campaign. Now, if the truth hurts, there\u2019s nothing I can do about it. The facts are the facts. He increased taxes and he\u2019s running away from that. He got a pay raise three times, he can\u2019t run away from that. He gave a $1.5 million pay raise to the CEO of University Medical Center,\u201d Teran said.<\/p>\n

Precinct 2 represents parts of West El Paso, Downtown El Paso and Central El Paso.<\/p>\n

In Precinct 4, incumbent Sergio Coronado is also facing a challenge in the Democratic primary from Annette Griego.<\/p>\n

Coronado is finishing his first term in office. Griego is a family nurse practitioner and business owner. Leo Arcos is running unopposed in the Republican primary.<\/p>\n

Coronado said despite challenges the current Commissioner\u2019s Court has successfully balanced taxpayer burdens with community upgrades.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I think we\u2019ve proven to the public that we are concerned about everything. Both the taxes, the services that the state requires us to do, and provide some amenities in terms of what the community has told us that are important to them, including the water infrastructure, the parks. And we\u2019ve done that. And I think we\u2019ve taken a very balanced approach,\u201d Coronado said.<\/p>\n

Griego, meanwhile, argues Precinct 4 needs a watchdog to fight rising taxes and invest in critical in infrastructure.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to address the budgeting. We need to take care of unnecessary expenses. We need to monitor the cost. We really need to go department by department and analyze the budgeting. That\u2019s really going to help significantly with our property taxes,\u201d Griego said.<\/p>\n

Precinct 4 represents West and Northeast El Paso, Westway, Canutillo and Anthony.<\/p>\n
