{"id":188154,"date":"2026-03-03T08:52:18","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T08:52:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/188154\/"},"modified":"2026-03-03T08:52:18","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T08:52:18","slug":"chadra-mezza-lebanese-restaurant-open-on-i-35w-in-fort-worth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/188154\/","title":{"rendered":"Chadra Mezza Lebanese restaurant open on I-35W in Fort Worth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FORT WORTH<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/chadramezza.com\/home\/info\/\">Chadra Mezza &amp; Grill<\/a> has returned again to south Fort Worth, this time as a small cafe and takeout counter for Mediterranean shawarma, hummus or pasta dinners along Interstate 35W.<\/p>\n<p>In its 25th year, Chadra is now in its fifth location. But it serves the same Lebanese and Italian dishes by the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/chadracatering.com\/our-team\/\">Elbitar<\/a> family, this time in a nondescript box-shaped building at 1700 South Freeway on the Near Southside.<\/p>\n<p>When the newest Chadra opened last summer, it didn\u2019t have a sign. It still doesn\u2019t have a real front door. Pull open the industrial steel door to what looks like a warehouse, and inside, you\u2019ll find a four-table cafe plus a catering hall and patio.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not as big as the Elbitars\u2019 <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/entertainment\/restaurants\/eats-beat\/article243319621.html\">old Chadra Mezza<\/a> restaurant and bar near the Fort Worth Zoo.<\/p>\n<p>But there\u2019s something friendly and cozy about packing around community tables for chef Nehme Elbitar\u2019s gyros, kebabs or spinach-mushroom stuffed \u201cheavenly\u201d chicken Alfredo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were going to reopen on [West] Magnolia Avenue, but every time we looked, the rent was $14,000 or $15,000 a month,\u201d Elbitar said.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, the Elbitars bought a former restaurant commissary near John Peter Smith Hospital and turned it into a large events hall and catering kitchen plus a small cafe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe decided to just have a little place \u2014 the regulars want to come in and sit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>                                                                                                                                                                                                              <img class=\"responsive-image\" width=\"1140\" height=\"855\"  alt=\"Chadra Mezza is on the South Freeway (Interstate 35W) access road at East Allen Street in Fort Worth, Texas.\" title=\"IMG_9753.jpeg\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/>                                                                                                                Chadra Mezza is on the South Freeway (Interstate 35W) access road at East Allen Street in Fort Worth, Texas. Gray                                                                            Star-Telegram archives                                                                                        <\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s also an Italian menu with penne alla vodka, pastas with Alfredo or marinara sauce and the signature \u201cheavenly\u201d chicken.<\/p>\n<p>When Chadra opened in 2002, customers all wanted pizzas and nobody wanted Lebanese dishes with the traditional creamy garlic sauce. Gray                                                                            Star-Telegram archives                                                                                        <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, there are so many new people here, everybody wants the shawarma, the falafels and the garlic sauce,\u201d Elbitar said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I made it 25 years ago, people were like, \u2018Oh, god \u2014 this is pure garlic!\u2019 Now, everybody wants it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If you remember Chadra\u2019s old pizza buffet, the pizzas are still on the menu.
