A first-round pick in 2019, Howard started 93 games over seven seasons in Houston. The veteran is a solid pass blocker, particularly on the right side, but has struggled in run blocking throughout his career.<\/p>\n
The acquisition brings position flexibility to Cleveland. Howard can play right tackle or slide inside to either guard spot. In 2025, he played 628 snaps at right tackle, 402 at left guard and 132 at right guard.<\/p>\n
The Browns entered the offseason with a black hole along the offensive line. Joel Bitonio<\/a>, Jack Conklin<\/a>, Ethan Pocic<\/a>, Wyatt Teller<\/a>, Cam Robinson<\/a> and Teven Jenkins<\/a> are all set to hit the open market. Rebuilding the O-line is a priority for general manager Andrew Berry. Plugging in a capable veteran with position versatility like Howard is a good initial move. There’s plenty more to come.<\/p>\n For Houston, the offensive line remake will continue. Jettisoning one of its more capable options is an interesting choice, but a blocking upgrade, particularly in the run game, is needed this offseason. The move frees up cap space to be used elsewhere. Ed Ingram<\/a>, the Texans’ best offensive lineman in 2025, is set to be a free agent. Houston also has high-profile defenders in line for extensions, including Will Anderson Jr.<\/a>.<\/p>\n Whomever the Texans end up adding will be blocking for a new starting running back after Houston agreed to trade<\/a> two picks and lineman Juice Scruggs<\/a> to Detroit for veteran David Montgomery<\/a> later Monday.<\/p>\n Texans GM Nick Caserio has tinkered heavily with his offensive line the past several seasons but found few solid answers.
