The Pirates took the lead when Johnson did the same thing minutes later in the first- from two yards out and gave Cooper the 14-7 lead.

With the game tied 21-21, LCP QB Ryan Rodriguez lofted the ball to WR Cade Gant for the explosive go-ahead score. Johnson made another goal line score in the third with the help of his teammates. The Pirates would lead 49-21 in the fourth before they staved off a 3TD comeback attempt from the Mavericks.

The win puts Lubbock-Cooper in a better position to contend for a playoff appearance. Next week, they will try to climb the 5A-2 District 2 standings even more as they welcome in Abilene Wylie there at Pirate Stadium.

Click here to download the End Zone app, which is available in your App, Android, and Google store.

Copyright 2025 KCBD.
