Two people died Monday in unrelated police chases in Fort Worth, authorities said, one after a hit-and-run and the other following an attempted stop in an aggravated kidnapping case.<\/p>\n
The first pursuit began<\/a> around 4:30 p.m. when West Division officers responded to a hit-and-run crash in the eastbound lanes of West Freeway near Horne Street. The hit-and-run victim told dispatchers they had been following the suspect vehicle after it failed to stop. Officers spotted the car near Camp Bowie Boulevard and tried to pull it over, but the driver refused and fled eastbound. <\/p>\n The chase ended moments later in the 3700 block of Camp Bowie Boulevard<\/a> when the suspect struck a curb, lost control, and slammed into a tree. The driver, the only person in the vehicle, died at the scene. No one else was hurt.<\/p>\n In a separate incident shortly after 6:30 p.m., officers tried to stop a car they believed was linked<\/a> to an aggravated kidnapping. The driver sped away and headed north on Interstate 35W. The vehicle lost control after exiting at Pharr Street<\/a> near downtown, crashing into a concrete pillar beneath the overpass.<\/p>\n The driver was the sole occupant and was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers or bystanders were injured.<\/p>\n The Fort Worth Police Department\u2019s Traffic Investigation Unit and Major Case Unit are investigating both crashes.
