Some online chatter makes it sound like the big guy is ready to flatten the entire state — but there’s one major flaw in that theory. Texas is absolutely enormous. Even a skyscraper-sized lizard would need a lot of time (and a really good pair of walking shoes) to squash every major city. Even trying to set one city on fire and let it spread wouldn’t work, because Texas towns are separated by so much wide-open space.

Godzilla Is Set To Destroy Texas

Gallery Credit: Getty Images/Nessmania

Is the Hub City Safe From a Giant Lizard Rampage?

Only small leaks have emerged about the upcoming first issue, but here’s what we know so far. Godzilla reportedly makes landfall in Corpus Christi, then stomps through San Antonio, and lingers for a while in Austin. Honestly, I can’t blame him — there’s plenty I’d like to crush in Austin myself. But several big Texas cities are noticeably absent from the preview. There’s no early sign of Houston or Dallas–Fort Worth, and the West Texas trio of Lubbock, Amarillo, and El Paso appears to have been ignored entirely. You’d think a giant radioactive monster would beeline for the Pantex plant near Amarillo, but that’s not on the radar yet.

Of course, this is just the teaser phase — the comic book equivalent of a movie trailer — so we’re only seeing a sliver of what’s coming. And yes, it would make for one heck of a panel to see a giant lizard casually crunch the Buddy Holly statue. Nothing personal against Buddy or the bronze; it’s just one of the most recognizable icons of the Hub City, making it perfect giant-monster-fodder.

Read More: Lubbock’s Bird Die-Off Is a Perfect Horror Movie Setup

More details should emerge as the storyline continues to roll out. The first issue of Godzilla Versus Texas hits shelves on May 12th, and preorders are already open at your favorite comic shop.

How People Die At Big Bend, The Most Dangerous Texas State Park

Gallery Credit: Renee Raven

7 Poisonous Plants in Texas That Could Kill You

Watch out for these bad boys when you’re hiking around in Texas.

Gallery Credit: Chrissy Covington

[16
168,170,169
post-188905","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-lubbock","tag-lubbock","tag-lubbock-headlines","tag-lubbock-news
["GET
