The San Antonio Police Department has fired an officer who plowed his vehicle into a home\u2019s front yard<\/a> while drunk on duty last year, suspension records obtained by the Current show. <\/p>\n

David McCall, an 18-year veteran of the force, \u00a0crashed his personal vehicle on Aug. 5 in west Bexar County while he was supposed to working his police job, according to disciplinary records. At the time, his blood alcohol content was measured at 0.238, or approximately three times the legal limit, documents show.<\/p>\n

McCall, 59, pleaded no contest in the criminal case Feb. 4 and received deferred adjudication, KSAT reports, citing court records. He must serve a year\u2019s community service and will spend 6 months with a device on his vehicle that won\u2019t permit it to start if he\u2019s been drinking, according to the TV station. Additionally he must take a DWI education course. <\/p>\n

Neighbors called emergency responders to the site of McCall\u2019s single-car crash on the 3400 block of Coryell Cove, worried he\u2019d had a medical episode, police records show.<\/p>\n

While paramedics attended to McCall\u2019s injuries, deputies discovered a six-pack of beer and an unopened bottle of wine in the vehicle, according to disciplinary documents.\u00a0Nurses attending to the off-duty officer at a nearby hospital also reportedly smelled alcohol on his breath.<\/p>\n

While McCall was still at the hospital, a\u00a0sheriff\u2019s department investigator sought a warrant for a blood draw, records indicate.<\/p>\n
