Woods Jr.<\/p>\n<p>Candidate Marc Veasey, former Texas and U.S. House Representative, initially filled but dropped out. However, he is still on the ballot.<\/p>\n<p>What you need to know<\/p>\n<p>Simmons received 69,210 votes, or 61.79%, in early voting and has a comfortable lead to be the Democratic nominee. Veasey received 30,086 votes, or 26.86%.<\/p>\n<p>Woods is third in voting with 12,716 votes, or 11.35%.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s next?<\/p>\n<p>The winner of the primary election will appear again on the November ballot against the Republican primary winner.<\/p>\n<p>Community Impact will update this article as more election day vote totals are released.
