A 28-year-old father of six is dead after a police pursuit late Monday night<\/a>, and his family is demanding answers.<\/p>\n

His cousin, Asia Taylor, identified the man who died as Kendrick Gibson.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo me, he was a fun cousin, a family guy… he loved his kids,\u201d said Taylor.<\/p>\n

Family members told WFAA he had just left his grandmother\u2019s Fort Worth home when police attempted to pull him over. Not long after, relatives were called to the scene of a crash following a pursuit.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really at a loss for words because I\u2019m really upset,\u201d said his grandmother, Debbie Gibson, speaking at the scene.<\/p>\n

Fort Worth police said officers tried to stop Gibson\u2019s vehicle because they believed it was involved in an aggravated kidnapping. According to police, Gibson drove north on Interstate 35W, prompting a pursuit.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe suspect vehicle took the Pharr Street exit, lost control and crashed into a concrete pillar underneath the overpass,\u201d said Tracy Carter, a public information officer with the Fort Worth Police Department.<\/p>\n

Gibson died at the scene. Police said he was the only person in the vehicle. Family members questioned the circumstances surrounding the alleged kidnapping, saying they do not believe Gibson was involved.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf this were an alleged kidnapping, where is the victim in this?\u201d Taylor said. \u201cI don\u2019t feel like they were very forthcoming with what actually transpired.\u201d<\/p>\n

Juanita Moreno, the mother of Gibson\u2019s children, said she was on the phone with him as police tried to pull him over. She said she heard him repeatedly ask the police why he was being stopped.<\/p>\n

“I can hear it in his voice; he was uncomfortable. He was scared,” Moreno said. \u201cThe next thing you know, we just hear a loud bang, like if somebody t-boned him.”<\/p>\n

WFAA reached out to Fort Worth police for additional details on Tuesday. A spokesperson said the investigation remains underway, adding, “We will release more information once we are able to do so.”<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re demanding full transparency. I want to see the dashcam footage,\u201d Taylor said.<\/p>\n

The same night, police said a separate pursuit also turned deadly<\/a> when an alleged hit-and-run driver lost control and struck a tree off Camp Bowie Boulevard.<\/p>\n

For Gibson\u2019s family, the loss is overwhelming.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was loved, and this is not going to be something we\u2019re going to be quiet about and forget about. He mattered,\u201d Taylor said.<\/p>\n
