{"id":189695,"date":"2026-03-04T07:26:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-04T07:26:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/189695\/"},"modified":"2026-03-04T07:26:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-04T07:26:11","slug":"texas-voter-chaos-stymies-james-talarico-jasmine-crockett-senate-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/189695\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas Voter Chaos Stymies James Talarico &#038; Jasmine Crockett Senate Race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cWe are not going to have election results tonight in Dallas County,\u201d Democratic Senate candidate <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/jasmine-crockett\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jasmine-crockett\" data-tag=\"jasmine-crockett\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jasmine Crockett<\/a> told supporters late Tuesday just after primary polls closed in Texas \u201cUnfortunately, this is what Republicans like to do,\u201d the savvy Texas Congresswoman added of the legal confusion that had enveloped the contest on a night of elections in the Lone Star state, North Carolina and Arkansas. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cPeople have been disenfranchised!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn one of the most watched Senate races of the primaries and the November midterms, Crockett\u2019s remarks came just as a slew of votes from her stronghold of Dallas County came in and significantly cut the state lead of rival <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/james-talarico\/\" id=\"auto-tag_james-talarico\" data-tag=\"james-talarico\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">James Talarico<\/a>. About 72% of <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/texas-primary\/\" id=\"auto-tag_texas-primary\" data-tag=\"texas-primary\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Texas primary<\/a> voting among Democrats have come in so far with Talarico holding a slim 5% lead over Crockett. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tBoth <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/joe-rogan\/\" id=\"auto-tag_joe-rogan\" data-tag=\"joe-rogan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Joe Rogan<\/a> guest and Texas House of Representative member Talarico and Rep. Crockett  have argued that they can galvanize voters, win in the home of LBJ, and help Dems take back control of Congress.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tStill, under this year\u2019s convoluted and partisan primary process, and the fallout from the latest round of gerrymandering, many Texas Democratic voters in the mega-County could not vote at the state polling stations and \u00a0precincts they showed up at. To make sure every vote was cast and counted, a state judge ordered polling stations in the mega-jurisdiction be kept open until 9 pm local time \u2014 giving citizens a couple of extra hours to vote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tA ruling for the sprawling country that Crockett took to social media today to make sure supporters knew about.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">IF YOU\u2019RE IN LINE \u2014 STAY IN LINE!!! You get to vote!!<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jasmine Crockett (@JasmineForUS) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JasmineForUS\/status\/2029000747656896715?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">March 4, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn a distinctly Made-in-Texas move that quickly took over CNN and MS Now\u2019s coverage of the election, the Democrats\u2019 primary was then thrown further into chaos in the second largest county in the state by Ken Paxton. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe GOP Senate candidate and MAGA fave put on his state Attorney General 10-galloon hat and asked the Lone Star Supreme Court to stop the extension of voting hours in Dallas County \u2013 which they promptly did. Possibly setting the stage for a voter suppression case, the Texas Supreme Court ruled late Tuesday that votes \u201ccast by voters who were not in line to vote at 7 p.m. should be separated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHow those partitioned votes will be counted, and if they will, remains unclear. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tBesides a likely foreshadowing of how Donald Trump and Republicans aim to muddy the election waters in November, what is very clear is that the telegenic Crockett and Talarico, who did not address his supporters tonight, have a lot of deep pocket backing in the home of Hollywood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAmong entertainment industry donors, the Crockett vs. Talarico race was the most closely watched of all primaries on Tuesday. Both seen as rising stars in the Red State and the Democratic Party, Talarico and Crockett each sought industry support over the past several months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tA commanding presence on social media since being elected to Congress in 2023, Crockett spoke to The Working Group, the monthly Zoom calls featuring an audience of writers and producers. Such figures as Bruce Cohen and Judd Apatow donated to her campaign. Talarico last month <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/02\/james-talarico-stephen-colbert-interview-cbs-la-fundraiser-1236727202\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">held a Los Angeles fundraiser <\/a>hosted by <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/james-costos\/\" id=\"auto-tag_james-costos\" data-tag=\"james-costos\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">James Costos<\/a> and Michael Smith. Former HBO exec and Obama-era Ambassador to Spain Costos has long been known to remain personally and politically close to the former POTUS. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe LA event at Costos and Smith\u2019s home was held just days after Talarico sat down for an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/stephen-colbert\/\" id=\"auto-tag_stephen-colbert\" data-tag=\"stephen-colbert\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stephen Colbert<\/a> that was to be broadcast on CBS\u2019 The Late Show. But Colbert said that CBS lawyers told him that he could not have Talarico on the broadcast, due to an FCC crackdown on the Equal Time Rule that requires that broadcasters provide comparable time to rivals when featuring a candidate on their airwaves.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe publicity surrounding the incident helped drive contributions to Talarico\u2019s campaign<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHe raised $2.5 million after the interview was shifted from broadcast to YouTube. Proving a boon to Talarico\u2019s stature, the semi-banned Colbert interview got more than 9 million views on the platform, far more than what it would have received on The Late Show. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tFCC Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/brendan-carr\/\" id=\"auto-tag_brendan-carr\" data-tag=\"brendan-carr\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brendan Carr<\/a> criticized the media that covered the incident, calling it a \u201choax\u201d as Talarico claimed that it was the agency that was banning him from the airwaves. In fact, it was up to CBS to decide whether they wanted their affiliates to be on the hook for providing time to Talarico\u2019s competitors. Crockett had previously appeared on The Late Show, but they had another rival in the primary, Ahmad Hassan \u2013 \u2013 who proved not much of a factor tonight. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAmong Texas Republicans, their Senate race is heading to a May 26 runoff with four-term incumbent John Cornyn up against MAGA loyalist Ken Paxton. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHeading into the highly charged midterms in November, Latin <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/grammy\/\" id=\"auto-tag_grammy\" data-tag=\"grammy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Grammy<\/a> winning singer Bobby Pulido aced his Texas primary.  Blessed by massive name recognition, the middle of the road Puildon will take on incumbent GOP Rep.
