A Texas mom admitted to running over and killing her husband with her SUV \u2014 but claimed she was drunk and only meant to \u201chit\u201d him.<\/p>\n
Alina Gonzalez-Morelos, 37, \u201cvoluntarily\u201d turned herself in to the Pasadena Police Department and \u201cconfessed\u201d to mowing down her husband, 42-year-old Leonardo Mendoza, with her\u00a0Chevy Tahoe following a heated argument on Sunday morning, KTRK<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n Gonzalez-Morelos had left a party and was drunk when she returned to her home in Pasadena \u2014 about 15 miles southeast of Houston \u2014 and got into a verbal exchange with her husband, Pasadena Police Officer Darby Slack said.<\/p>\n Alina Gonzalez-Morelos admitted to running over and killing her husband with her SUV \u2014 but claimed she was drunk and only meant to \u201chit\u201d him. She\u2019d come home around 2 o\u2019clock that morning,\u201d Slack told the outlet. <\/p>\n \u201cThe children overheard them having an argument inside of the room. He exited, and she followed.\u201d <\/p>\n Following the argument, Mendoza left the home and began walking down the street where his car was parked when a witness at a nearby gas station said they saw \u201ca black Tahoe exit the roadway, jump the curb, and strike the male that was walking through the parking lot.\u201d<\/p>\n The witness said that after hitting Mendoza, the SUV fled the scene. <\/p>\n Police said they were called to the scene around 3:30 a.m. for a \u201cfail to stop and render aid\u201d incident.<\/p>\n Surveillance video showing Leonardo Mendoza running away before his wife hit him. KHOU 11 \/ YouTube<\/p>\n There, they found Mendoza suffering from serious injuries and rushed him to HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast, where he later died from his injuries, Slack said.<\/p>\n Pasadena detectives then began a \u201cthorough investigation\u201d of the fatal hit-and-run.<\/p>\n Mendoza\u2019s family members spoke to investigators, who revealed the SUV in question matched the description of Gonzalez-Morelos\u2019 black Tahoe.<\/p>\n After surrendering to authorities, Gonzalez-Morelos allegedly admitted to investigators that she accelerated her SUV onto the sidewalk and ran over her husband.<\/p>\n While she told investigators that she did mean to \u201chit\u201d her husband with the SUV, she maintained that she did not intend to kill him.\u00a0<\/p>\n
