Jasmine Crockett in bitter Dem Texas Senate primary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic Texas state legislator James Talarico emerged victorious Tuesday over <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/07\/us-news\/rep-jasmine-crockett-is-a-no-show-boss-from-hell-who-terrorizes-staffers-aides-say-all-diva-no-wow\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">loudmouth left-wing Rep. Jasmine Crockett following a ferocious US Senate<\/a> primary marred in its final hours by allegations of voter suppression from both candidates.<\/p>\n<p>With 91% of the expected vote tallied, Talarico, 36, had 52.9% compared to 45.7% for Crockett, 44, avoiding a bruising runoff campaign that would have lasted close to another three months. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re about to take back Texas,\u201d proclaimed Talarico, who will face the winner of the May 26 Republican runoff between incumbent Sen. John Cornyn and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not just trying to win an election,\u201d Talarico told supporters in Austin before the race was called. \u201cWe are trying to fundamentally change our politics. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Crockett\u2019s campaign said she planned to sue over voting issues in Dallas and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/03\/us-news\/rep-jasmine-crockett-leaves-texas-senate-primary-party-accuses-gop-of-election-meddling\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">she spoke only briefly on Tuesday night<\/a> to warn that \u201cpeople have been disenfranchised.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republicans had openly hoped Crockett would win, viewing her as the less electable candidate in the Nov. 3 midterms, while Talarico is believed to have more crossover appeal to independents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re cheering for Jasmine Crockett,\u201d Fox News host Sean Hannity said on air Tuesday evening while reading a results update from the Lone Star State.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Crockett and Talarico had each argued that they would be the stronger general election candidate in a state that backed President Trump by almost 14 percentage points in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Results were reported later than expected after voting was extended by two hours in Dallas County \u2014 Crockett\u2019s home base \u2014 and Williamson County, outside Austin, after voters reported being turned away and directed to different voting precincts because of new primary rules.<\/p>\n<p>Paxton\u2019s office challenged the judge\u2019s decision keeping the polls open longer, and the state Supreme Court ruled that ballots cast by people not in line by 7 p.m. CT should be separated from others.<\/p>\n<p>A supporter watches election results at Texas Democratic US Senate hopeful James Talarico\u2019s election night watch party in south Austin on March 3, 2026. We cannot allow this type of behavior to be rewarded,\u201d Crockett told supporters earlier Tuesday night in praising the voting extension. \u201cBecause so long as they know that they can win \u2014 even if it means cheating \u2014 then they will continue to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Texas Senate primaries were the most expensive races in US history, according to AdImpact, a digital media tracking firm, with <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AdImpact_Pol\/status\/2025964412490715440\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">more than $110 million spent on ads<\/a> for the Democratic and Republican candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Talarico had more than $17.6 million spent on his behalf for commercials, while Crockett only saw $4.3 million shelled out. Talarico also experienced a surge of attention \u2014 and donations \u2014 last month after <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/17\/media\/colbert-rips-cbs-for-pulling-james-talarico-interview-over-regulatory-concerns\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CBS declined to air his interview<\/a> with late-night host Stephen Colbert over concerns about running afoul of equal-time rules.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. AP<\/p>\n<p>Unusually for a Democratic primary, both main candidates came from a religious background. <\/p>\n<p>Crockett is the daughter of a pastor and Talarico received a master of divinity degree at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.<\/p>\n<p>But in terms of style and tactics, the two could not have been more different.<\/p>\n<p>James Talarico greets supporters during his primary election night party. REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>Crockett made her name by getting into viral clashes with MAGA lawmakers such as former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), whom she famously said had a \u201cbleach-blonde, bad-built, butch-body.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite her antics resembling those of a lefty populist, Crockett\u2019s vote record was in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.govtrack.us\/congress\/members\/jasmine_crockett\/456944\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">ideological middle<\/a> of the pack for House Democrats. She also staunchly <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/09\/us-news\/jasmine-crockett-says-she-never-had-a-concern-about-bidens-mental-state\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">defended former President Joe Biden\u2019s fitness<\/a> for office and has <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/29\/us-news\/jasmine-crockett-blasts-aoc-and-bernie-sanders-fighting-oligarchy-tour-as-self-serving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">taken digs at lefties<\/a> like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).<\/p>\n<p>Crockett <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/08\/us-news\/firebrand-texas-rep-jasmine-crockett-launches-run-for-senate\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">jumped into the Senate race in December <\/a>after Texas Republicans moved to redraw her Dallas-based seat. <\/p>\n<p>US Senate candidate Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas) dropped out and later endorsed her, claiming that <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/10\/media\/texas-democrat-feud-grows-as-colin-allred-claims-james-talarico-made-offensive-remarks-about-his-family\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Talarico racially slighted him by referring to Allred as a \u201cmediocre black man,\u201d<\/a> a charge Talarico has denied.<\/p>\n<p>Crockett\u2019s brash public persona frequently landed her in hot water, as when she bashed Republican Texas Gov.
