{"id":191255,"date":"2026-03-05T05:14:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-05T05:14:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/191255\/"},"modified":"2026-03-05T05:14:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T05:14:10","slug":"tarrant-voters-will-cast-ballots-in-these-may-26-runoffs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/191255\/","title":{"rendered":"Tarrant voters will cast ballots in these May 26 runoffs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                <img class=\"responsive-image\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\"  alt=\"\" title=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>                Amanda McCoy<\/p>\n<p>            amccoy@star-telegram.com<\/p>\n<p>With the March 3 primary in the past, here are all the remaining Texas primary races headed to runoffs.<\/p>\n<p>In party races where there were three or more candidates and none garner more than 51% of the vote, the top two vote-getters will be on the runoff ballot to decide who will be the nominee in the November election.<\/p>\n<p>The runoff election will be on May 26 and early voting will be May 18 to May 22.<\/p>\n<p>Federal races<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Senate<\/p>\n<p>Republican Sen. John Cornyn and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton are heading to a runoff after receiving 41.7% and 40% of the vote, respectively. One of them will face Democrat James Talarico in November.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. House District 24<\/p>\n<p>Democrat Kevin Burge was the highest vote-getter in the race with 48.2%. TJ Ware narrowly outpaced Jon Buchwald with 26.5%. The winner will go up against incumbent Beth Van Duyne.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. House District 33<\/p>\n<p>Democrats Colin Allred and Julie Johnson were the two front-runners with 45.5% and 34%.<\/p>\n<p>On the Republican ballot, Patrick David Gillespie and John Sims will be in a runoff. Gillespie received 35.5%. Sims got 21.7%, narrowly beating out Monte \u201cDoc\u201d Mitchell and Kurt Schwab.<\/p>\n<p>Statewide Texas races<\/p>\n<p>Attorney General<\/p>\n<p>Democrats Nathan Johnson and Joe Jaworski will be on the runoff ballot after receiving 47.8% and 26.7% of the vote. Jaworski just barely passed Anthony \u201cTony\u201d Box to make it into the runoff.<\/p>\n<p>Mayes Middleton and Chip Roy were the clear front-runners in the four-person Republican race with 39.1% and 31.8%.<\/p>\n<p>Railroad Commissioner<\/p>\n<p>Republicans Jim Wright and Bo French were neck-and-neck in their primary with 32% and 31.7% of the vote. The Democraton the November ballot is Jon Rosenthal.<\/p>\n<p>Texas House District 97<\/p>\n<p>On the Democratic ticket, Diane Symons garnered 42% of the vote. Beth Llewellyn McLaughlin barely outpaced Ryan Ray to enter the runoff with 30%. The winner will challenge Republican incumbent John McQueeney.<\/p>\n<p>Tarrant County<\/p>\n<p>Commissioner Precinct 2<\/p>\n<p>Democrats Amanda Arizola and Jared Williams outpaced Gabe Rivas with 43.6% and 36.4% in the race for the open seat.
