According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), 33-year-old James Douglas McMillan of Greenfield, Wis. fled from a checkpoint along I-10 in Sierra Blanca after a U.S. Border Patrol Drug K-9 was alerted to the vehicle

McMillan, who was the only person in the fleeing car, started to shoot at DPS Troopers and other officers out his window

DPS Troopers were able to stop McMillan\u2019s car by deploying a \u201cprecision immobilization technique maneuver.\u201d

When the car had stopped, McMillan proceeded to barricade himself inside his car and then point his weapon once again toward officers. Officers on the scene then fired shots, eventually striking and killing McMillan<\/p>\n

At that point, agents told McMillan to pull over for another search. That\u2019s when a chase began. DPS Texas Highway Patrol Troops and Aircraft Operations Division pilots were called to help.<\/p>\n
McMillan, who was the only person in the fleeing car, started to shoot at DPS Troopers and other officers out his window. He was also shooting at civilian cars, DPS said.<\/p>\n
Officers then began to fire back. DPS Troopers were able to stop McMillan\u2019s car by deploying a \u201cprecision immobilization technique maneuver.\u201d<\/p>\n
When the car had stopped, McMillan proceeded to barricade himself inside his car and then point his weapon once again toward officers. Officers on the scene then fired shots, eventually striking and killing McMillan.<\/p>\n
DPS said there were no injuries to either officers or bystanders.<\/p>\n
Further investigation revealed that McMillan\u2019s car had been stolen from Arizona.<\/p>\n
