The family of a 28-year-old man who died in a crash after a pursuit with Fort Worth police<\/a> on Monday night says they want answers.<\/p>\n Family members identified the man<\/a> as Kendrick Gibson and said he was a father of six, according to Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV.<\/p>\n Police said that the chase began when officers tried to stop a car they believed was involved in an aggravated kidnapping. The driver refused to comply, according to police, and officers pursued the vehicle as it headed north on Interstate 35W.<\/p>\n The driver lost control after taking the Pharr Street exit near downtown and slammed into a concrete pillar under the overpass, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n Gibson was alone in the car, and no one else was injured in the crash. Police haven\u2019t said why they believed the vehicle was involved in a kidnapping. Gibson\u2019s family told WFAA that they\u2019re questioning the narrative about the kidnapping and don\u2019t think the 28-year-old father was involved.<\/p>\n \u201cIf this were an alleged kidnapping, where is the victim in this?\u201d said Gibson\u2019s cousin Asia Taylor. \u201cI don\u2019t feel like they were very forthcoming with what actually transpired.\u201d<\/p>\n Gibson had just left his grandmother\u2019s house in Fort Worth when he was stopped by police, WFAA reported.<\/p>\n Taylor told WFAA that the family wants to see dashboard-camera videos of the incident and want the police to be completely transparent about what took place.<\/p>\n The mother of Gibson\u2019s children, Juanita Moreno, was talking with him on the phone when police stopped him. She told WFAA that Gibson asked the officers several times why they had pulled him over, and she could hear the fear in his voice.<\/p>\n \u201cThe next thing you know, we just hear a loud bang, like if somebody T-boned him,\u201d Moreno said.<\/p>\n Police said in a news release Tuesday that the Traffic Investigation Unit and Major Case Unit are actively investigating the incident and \u201cdetectives are working to confirm the circumstances leading up to the pursuit.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe will follow up with additional details after detectives have had time to conduct their investigation,\u201d the release said.<\/p>\n The crash was one of two on Monday in which a driver was killed while being pursued by Fort Worth police. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office identified the driver who died in a crash on Camp Bowie Boulevard<\/a> as 33-year-old Sam Chavarria.
