Texas (YCT) has released its 89th Legislative Session Ratings, giving voters a detailed look at how lawmakers performed on conservative priorities during the most recent session in Austin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The annual <a href=\"https:\/\/dallasexpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/YCT_89th-Leg-Ratings.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:ratings;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">ratings<\/a> \u2014 obtained exclusively by The Dallas Express \u2014 score legislators based on key votes tied to fiscal responsibility, individual liberty, and constitutional governance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThe main goal is transparency for Texan conservatives,\u201d said Cassidy Schnoor, YCT senior vice chairman. \u201cWe want Texans to look at these ratings and hold their elected officials accountable when they call themselves conservative but do not have the voting record to back that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to Schnoor, YCT members reviewed every House and Senate journal from the 89th legislative session, identifying bills that aligned with or opposed the organization\u2019s stated priorities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe narrowed down the list to roughly 100 votes in each chamber that we believed were the most important,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Top Performers \u2013 Texas House<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Brian Harrison (R) \u2013 94<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Joanne Shofner (R) \u2013 92<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThe extent to which the Senate was unified on conservative priorities stood out to us,\u201d Schnoor said, \u201cas well as freshmen representatives like Andy Hopper, Brent Money, Mike Olcott, and Joanne Shofner, who voted their way into our top Alvarado (D) \u2013 40<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Senate Average: 68.7<\/p>\n<p>Conservative Momentum<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThis year\u2019s results should tell conservatives in Texas to be hopeful,\u201d Schnoor said. \u201cAlthough there is still room for improvement, the Texas Legislature is moving in a more conservative direction, and the conservative movement can look forward to many more victories in future sessions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">YCT Chairman Nathan Darsch added that the results reflect lawmakers who \u201ctook conservative policy stances even when unpopular in the Austin swamp.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Looking Toward 2026<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Schnoor said YCT will use the ratings to guide endorsements and political engagement ahead of the 2026 election cycle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe will use these ratings to help determine who we will and won\u2019t endorse, as well as which races we will get involved in.
