Many races remain undecided after the March 3 primary election \u2014 including who Republicans and Democrats will choose to represent them in key statewide and congressional races.<\/p>\n

In contests where no candidate secured at least 50% of the vote, the top two vote-takers must now face off in May 26 primary runoffs.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s left Republican leaders scrambling to snuff out<\/a> bruising runoffs that could drain resources in a tough midterm election, while Democrats are still deciding who to put forward in races they once wouldn\u2019t have thought<\/a> were in play. <\/p>\n

A few reminders about the\u00a0how the primary runoff works in Texas<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Anyone can vote in the primary runoff, even if they didn\u2019t participate in the March 3 primary.<\/p>\n

You don\u2019t have to be registered with a party to vote in the primary or the primary runoff.<\/p>\n

You can cast a ballot in either party\u2019s primary \u2014 but not both. You\u2019ll just select the party\u2019s ballot you want before you enter the voting booth.<\/p>\n

Voters who participated in the first round must continue using the same party\u2019s ballot in the runoff. For example, if you selected the Democratic primary ballot for the March 3 primary, you can only vote in Democratic primary runoffs on May 26.<\/p>\n

Both parties\u2019 voters use the same\u00a0polling locations, operated by the county elections department. <\/p>\n

The deadline to register to vote in the runoff election is April 27.<\/p>\n

Early voting runs May 18 through May 22. <\/p>\n
