From the West Coast\u2019s majestic mountains to the prairie ecoregions of the Great Plains to the white sand dunes in New Mexico, the resource zeroed in on the small towns that feature the best views of the nation&#8217;s\u00a0eclectic scenery.<\/p>\n<p>One Texas Panhandle town\u2019s beauty earned it a spot among the 13 prettiest towns \u2014 and it\u2019s not hard to see why.<\/p>\n<p>WorldAtlas praised <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canyontx.gov\/35\/Visiting\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canyon<\/a> for representing \u201cthe expansive and diverse landscape of Texas better than most towns.\u201d Located in the heart of the Texas Panhandle, it\u2019s known as the gateway to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/palodurocanyon.com\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Palo Dura Canyon State Park<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 the second-largest in the country, often referred to as the \u201cGrand Canyon of Texas.\u201d This is one of several nature preserves that surround the town of roughly 17,000 residents, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fws.gov\/refuge\/buffalo-lake\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Buffalo Lake National Wildlife Refuge<\/a> and Ceta Canyon Retreat Center.<\/p>\n<p>To take a deeper dive into Texas culture and take in the surrounding landscape, <a href=\"https:\/\/paloduroridingstables.com\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Palo Duro Riding Stables<\/a> offers the only stable that rides into the Palo Duro Canyon. Equestrian trails span 1,500 acres, and combine with hiking and biking trails to exceed 30 miles total. The state park also has a range of campsites, from\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.glamping.com\/what-is-glamping\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">glamping<\/a>\u201d to <a href=\"https:\/\/tpwd.texas.gov\/state-parks\/palo-duro-canyon\/fees-facilities\/cabins\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cabins<\/a> to backpack camping areas. Throughout the summer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texas-show.com\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">TEXAS Outdoor Musical<\/a> runs from Tuesday through Sunday at the Pioneer Amphitheater. The family-friendly show focuses on the lives of early settlers and features singing, dancing, fireworks and Texas humor.<\/p>\n<p>Canyon is also home to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panhandleplains.org\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum<\/a>, Texas&#8217; largest history museum, which currently spans over 285,000 square feet on the West Texas A&amp;M University campus. The museum has unfortunately been closed since March 2025 due to safety concerns. However, West Texas A&amp;M University President Walter Wendler recently <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7amarillo.com\/news\/local\/panhandle-plains-historical-museum-could-stay-on-west-texas-am-university-campus-canyon-after-all-close-fire-code-violations-state-fire-marshals-office-wtamu-president-walter-wendler-panhandle-plains-historical-society-artifcats\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hinted at a plan<\/a> \u201cthat would reopen the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum on the WT campus and address archival storage for [the museum\u2019s] collection.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"It\u2019s official: Texas is home to one of the prettiest towns in the country.
