LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Jasmine Perry discovered her calling at 18 with no formal plan, just a pair of hands and a belief that she had something to offer.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was 18 years old and looking for a way to make money, and I looked at my hands and said God gave me a gift,\u201d Perry said.<\/p>\n
Five years later, she\u2019s opening Certified Hair Lounge, a family-operated barber and salon shop just blocks from where she was raised.<\/p>\n
Perry\u2019s connection to the building predates the grand opening. She worked in the same space under a previous salon owner before that arrangement ended, leading her to work at various locations around Lubbock.<\/p>\n
Her family watched her persistence and decided to invest in her vision. When the building became available, they got to work converting it into a dual-purpose space with a barber side and a salon side.<\/p>\n
\u201cI grew up right down the street on 29th St, so it\u2019s kind of just like home a little bit and it\u2019s really a busy street and the way the building is set up, it\u2019s perfect for a barber side and salon side,\u201d Perry said.<\/p>\n
Now working as a loctician and natural hair stylist with a growing client base, Perry is candid about what it took to reach this point.<\/p>\n
\u201cI definitely sacrificed the right things, I sacrificed partying, I sacrificed going out every weekend and I don\u2019t want anyone that\u2019s younger than me or even the same age or older than me to think that it was easy because it wasn\u2019t,\u201d Perry said.<\/p>\n
The salon\u2019s grand opening is set for March 14. Certified Hair Lounge is still seeking licensed stylists and barbers to join the team.<\/p>\n
