Whataburger <\/a>has landed at Daikin Park, home of the Houston Astros!<\/a><\/p>\n

On paper, this collaboration feels like a home run for Houstonians. It\u2019s hard to name a fast-food restaurant that\u2019s more iconically \u201cTexas\u201d than Whataburger, and the chain\u2019s orange-and-white color scheme fits perfectly with the Astros.<\/p>\n

However, early rumors about the prices are making Astros fans feel like they\u2019re striking out.<\/p>\n

Last week, Apollo Dez, co-founder of the popular Houston sports blog APOLLO MEDIA,<\/a> visited Daikin Park and posted images of the newly built ballpark Whataburger.<\/a><\/p>\n

He also shared a photo of the Whataburger \u00e0 la carte menu, which fans pointed out had some steep prices by Whataburger standards.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what the image showed:<\/p>\n

#1 Original Whataburger: $10.29 ($11.64 with cheese)<\/p>\n

#2 Double-Meat Whataburger: $15.05 ($16.40 with cheese)<\/p>\n

#3 Triple-Meat Whataburger: $20.95 ($22.30 with cheese)<\/p>\n

Say you fancy some fries on the side or a beverage to wash it down. Whataburger has you covered \u2014 but you\u2019d better hope your credit card can handle it:<\/p>\n

French Fries: $7.69<\/p>\n

Onion Rings: $9.29<\/p>\n

Chocolate Chip Cookie: $4.09<\/p>\n

Chocolate Chunk Brownie: $4.69<\/p>\n

Bottled Beer: $13.99<\/p>\n

Souvenir Soft Drink: $10.99<\/p>\n

Regular Soft Drink: $7.19<\/p>\n

Dasani Bottled Water: $5.79<\/p>\n

In a rare moment of math for me, I calculated that a standard Whataburger with cheese, fries, and a non-souvenir drink will set you back $26.52 before tax.<\/p>\n

I haven\u2019t been able to find any online evidence of meal packages that could offset some of those costs, but they\u2019d have to cut that price in half before it started to feel reasonable \u2014 even for a ballpark.<\/p>\n

Just to show you how absurd of an ask this is, I ordered the same items from the Whataburger location on the Southwest Freeway, close to the KPRC 2 station. I ordered the same three items \u00e0 la carte, for the sake of fairness to possible meal discounts.<\/p>\n

My pre-tax total was $12.17, less than half of the Daikin Park price. Our friends at Daikin Park and Whataburger seem to believe their offerings are 117.9% more valuable when they come together.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear whether the prices will look the same on opening day \u2014 after all, the venue is currently hosting the World Baseball Classic. Perhaps they\u2019re inflated for the international scope of these games. Who\u2019s to say?<\/p>\n

But in this author\u2019s opinion, seeing a double-digit number beginning with anything higher than \u201c1\u201d for a single Whataburger meal would just about spoil my appetite. Or at the very least, incentivize me to tough it out until after the game for a reasonably priced burger.<\/p>\n
