{"id":195441,"date":"2026-03-08T05:54:20","date_gmt":"2026-03-08T05:54:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/195441\/"},"modified":"2026-03-08T05:54:20","modified_gmt":"2026-03-08T05:54:20","slug":"crime-in-allen-down-22-6-year-over-year-city-report-shows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/195441\/","title":{"rendered":"Crime in Allen down 22.6% year over year, city report shows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe city of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofallen.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Allen<\/a> saw less crime in 2025 than in previous years, a city report shows.<\/p>\n<p>Police Chief Steve Dye presented the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allenpolice.org\/index.php\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Allen Police Department<\/a>\u2019s annual report\u2014which showed a 22.6% decrease in crime year over year\u2014at a Feb. 24 city council work session.<\/p>\n<p>A closer look<\/p>\n<p>The Allen Police Department recorded 885 crimes last year, a decrease from 1,143 crimes in 2024, according to city documents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe already had the lowest crime rate of the largest 50 cities in Texas,\u201d Dye said. \u201cWhen you\u2019re already in a fairly safe community as we\u2019re in, then it\u2019s harder to achieve these types of decreases.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dye said several factors contributed to this decrease, including increased police presence in shopping districts, and patrolling alleys and neighborhoods at night. Violent crime, which the department defines as murder, negligent manslaughter, rape, aggravated assault and robbery, decreased from 121 in 2024 to 77 in 2025.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/1772949259_476_thumbnail.jpeg\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"visualization\"\/>Property crime also decreased by 20.9% year over year, according to city documents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is very impressive,\u201d Dye said. \u201cI\u2019m just so proud of the team and what they\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/1772949260_292_thumbnail.jpeg\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"visualization\"\/>Diving deeper<\/p>\n<p>The Allen Police Department hired six new staff positions with funding approved in the <a href=\"https:\/\/cms3.revize.com\/revize\/allentx\/Images\/Documents\/Departments\/Finance\/Financial%20Transparency\/Budget\/Adopted%20Budget\/City%20of%20Allen%20Adopted%20Budget%202025-2026%20(DIGITAL%20COA%20WEB)%20FINAL.pdf?t=202510171515200&amp;t=202510171515200\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FY 2025-26 budget<\/a>, Dye said.<\/p>\n<p>Dye also highlighted several department initiatives and milestones, including:<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s next <\/p>\n<p>The department is aiming to achieve a 10% reduction in the total number of crimes in 2026, Dye said.<\/p>\n<p>The Allen Police Department also hopes to host one citywide crime prevention community event and increase department volunteerism by 20%, Dye said.<\/p>\n<p>To learn more about the Allen Police Department or find ways to volunteer, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allenpolice.org\/outreach\/volunteer.php\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">www.allenpolice.org\/outreach\/volunteer.<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The city of Allen saw less crime in 2025 than in previous years, a city report shows.
