Cooper Flagg is the Dallas Mavericks<\/a>\u2019 franchise player.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After foolishly trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers<\/a> for Anthony Davis (who\u2019s no longer on the roster) last February, the Mavericks were gifted with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Flagg was the surefire pick for the franchise, and while it\u2019s still early in his career, the Duke product has proven the Mavericks made the right decision to snag him at the beginning of that year\u2019s draft.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After recording 16 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and one steal against the Boston Celtics<\/a> on Friday, a\u00a0reporter shockingly asked Flagg if he would ever consider leaving Dallas for the 2024 NBA champions. Flagg responded to the wild question with a straightforward answer.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cNaw, I love being a Maverick,\u201d Flagg said. \u201cThat\u2019s home, and I don\u2019t want anything else. It was incredible to be able to play here; obviously, this is the place I came as a kid and got to watch. So I think it\u2019s gonna be incredibly fun for the rest of my career to come here and play in front of this crowd.\u201d<\/p>\n

Flagg has showcased his high-level pick-and-roll instincts, confident face-up game, simplistic yet fluid handle, and above-the-rim finishing when he gets a full head of steam thus far in the big leagues\u00a0(he\u2019s averaging 20.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.2 steals this season with the Mavericks).\u00a0<\/p>\n

It doesn\u2019t take a genius to figure out that the Mavericks will do everything in their power to avoid parting ways with another generational superstar. As a high-upside contributor who\u2019s already shown he can be an immediate impact asset from the get-go, Flagg should be a member of the Mavericks\u2019 organization until he retires from the NBA.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fans can entertain themselves by crafting hypothetical trade\/free agency scenarios involving Flagg in the foreseeable future, but it would be a colossal waste of time.<\/p>\n
