The Southern giant trailed closely behind Florida, which claimed the No. 1 spot and an 8% share of all new residents.

On top of largely attracting out-of-state newcomers, Texas once again dominated with the highest volume of people who moved within Texas, with 3.414 million Texans relocating to a new Lone Star community.

“The data reflects what Texans experience every day: opportunity and a great place to enjoy life,” said Jennifer Wauhob, chairman of Texas REALTORS®, in the report. “Jobs and affordability draw people to Texas, and our strong communities make them want to stay.”

As for the California of it all, Texas welcomed fewer Californians from the Golden State in 2024 compared to 2023 figures, but California “still sent more new residents to Texas” than anywhere else, the report noted. California experienced 77,000 residents relocating to Texas while 45,000 Texans moved out to the West Coast, per the study.

Florida: 52,000 new Texas residents

New York: 28,000 new Texas residents

Illinois: 24,000 new Texas residents
