More than 2,000 pounds of methamphetamine being transported to Dallas was seized on Wednesday, March 4, by Texas DPS during a traffic stop, officials said.<\/p>\n
A DPS Trooper stopped a blue 2020 Kenworth semitractor-trailer shortly after 3:30 p.m. for a traffic violation on U.S. 281 near George West, according to a news release for the Texas Department of Public Safety.<\/p>\n
The Trooper noticed signs of possible criminal activity during the stop and a K-9 unit from the Live Oak County Sheriff\u2019s Office was called for further investigation, according to the release.<\/p>\n
A K-9 alerted to the trailer, and investigators found 479 black tape-wrapped bundles of methamphetamine hidden in a false floor compartment beneath it, officials said.<\/p>\n
The bundles weighed 1,980 pounds and had an estimated street value of $3.4 million, the release stated.<\/p>\n
The driver, 32-year-old Diego Mendez of Alton was arrested and faces charges for possession of a controlled substance over 400 grams, the release stated.<\/p>\n
Mendez was booked into the Live Oak County jail. The investigation is ongoing, according to the release.<\/p>\n
