SUGAR LAND, Texas \u2014 The Houston Christian University women’s golf team will host the Riverbend Intercollegiate on March 9\u201310 at Riverbend Country Club. The two-day tournament will feature 36 holes on Monday followed by a final 18 holes on Tuesday as the Huskies welcome a strong field of NCAA Division I programs to Sugar Land.<\/p>\n
The tournament field includes New Mexico State, Louisville, UT Arlington, Lamar, Tarleton State, Texas A&M\u2013Corpus Christi, Prairie View A&M, UT Rio Grande Valley, East Texas A&M, Incarnate Word, Austin Peay, Delaware, Blinn College, McLennan CC and Odessa College, along with host Houston Christian.<\/p>\n
The Huskies enter the event after a strong stretch of play this season, highlighted by a team victory at the Islanders Collegiate Invitational earlier this spring and a third-place finish at the Texas State Invitational. HCU has recorded several strong rounds throughout the season, including a team-low 281 in the second round of the Texas State Invitational, the lowest team round of the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Houston Christian will compete with a lineup featuring sophomore Ploy Makmanee<\/a>, senior Alejandra Ferrer<\/a>, sophomore Alyssa Stewart<\/a>, sophomore Abigail O’Brien<\/a>, and senior Hailey Hendershott<\/a>. Makmanee leads the Huskies with a 73.6 scoring average, while Stewart carries a 74.6 average and owns a low round of 69 this season. Ferrer recorded the lowest round by a Husky this year with a 67 during the Texas State Invitational, where she finished fourth individually.\u00a0<\/p>\n Three Huskies will also compete as individuals, including freshman Serena Churchill<\/a>, freshman Sara Pihlajamaki<\/a>, and junior Abigail Inocian<\/a>, giving HCU a total of eight players in the field for the home tournament.<\/p>\n The Riverbend Intercollegiate begins Monday morning with 36 holes and concludes Tuesday with the final round at Riverbend Country Club.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
