Through a series of lectures at San Antonio public libraries, motorsport historian Elizabeth Blackstock is highlighting influential women who transformed a notorious boys club into a sport accessible to all. Well, all who could afford it. <\/p>\n

Blackstock\u2019s lecture this Tuesday, \u201cChanging Gears: The Women Who Redefined What a Racing Driver Could Be,\u201d will look into a trio of pioneering French motoring celebrities of the Belle \u00c9poque. The stories of\u00a0Camille du Gast, H\u00e9l\u00e8ne de Rothschild (Baroness H\u00e9l\u00e8ne van Zuylen) and Anne de Rochechouart de Mortemart, the Duchess of Uz\u00e8s debunk the masculine mystique of race car driving.<\/p>\n

In the talk, Blackstock will explain how women dealt with gender-related pushback, challenged norms and forced institutions to evolve. They didn\u2019t just make room for themselves \u2014\u00a0they set the stage for generations to come. <\/p>\n
