If he&#8217;s upset with a referee&#8217;s call, the jacket comes off. Sometimes the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/sports\/columns\/article\/texas-basketball-vic-schaefer-ncaa-sec-21937879.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">jacket removals are theatrical<\/a>. Sometimes they&#8217;re subtle. Either way, Texas director of operations Tory Teykl is often left with some sideline laundry to collect.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>But over Texas&#8217; three games at this past weekend&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/sports\/college\/basketball\/article\/sec-basketball-tournament-2026-21955917.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">SEC Tournament<\/a>, Schaefer&#8217;s jacket didn&#8217;t come off once. The brown one he wore\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/sports\/college\/longhorns\/womens-basketball\/article\/texas-womens-basketball-ncaa-tournament-1-seed-21949329.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Friday against Alabama<\/a>? It stayed on throughout the Longhorns&#8217; 83-60 win. The black one he wore\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/sports\/college\/longhorns\/womens-basketball\/article\/texas-ole-miss-score-today-sec-tournament-21961267.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Saturday against\u00a0Ole Miss<\/a>? It remained on throughout the Longhorns&#8217; 85-68 win. And the checkered one he wore in Sunday\u2019s SEC championship game against No. 3 South Carolina? So was it chilly inside of Bon Secours Wellness Arena? Schaefer said after the Longhorns&#8217; win over South Carolina.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p class=\"MM_onlineOnly\" title=\"CCI Online Only\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/sports\/college\/longhorns\/womens-basketball\/article\/texas-south-carolina-score-today-sec-tournament-21962809.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">MORE: Texas beats South Carolina for first SEC Tournament title<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Texas trailed just once all weekend for a total of 83 seconds, and its victories over Ole Miss and South Carolina in the semifinals and final were wire-to-wire wins. The Longhorns\u2019 three triumphs came by an average of 19 points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MM_onlineOnly\" title=\"CCI Online Only\">In the championship game, Texas jumped out to a 14-0 lead over a South Carolina team that was playing roughly 100 miles from its campus. After a South Carolina timeout, Schaefer noted that Texas still outscored the Gamecocks 13-12 the rest of the first quarter. South Carolina was unable to get any closer than nine points the rest of the way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p class=\"MM_onlineOnly\" title=\"CCI Online Only\">&#8220;By the end of the first quarter, I&#8217;m good,\u201d Schaefer said. \u201cLike, they called timeout, we still won the rest of the quarter. Defensively, Texas forced 49 turnovers and held both Alabama and South Carolina to bottom-five scoring totals for their seasons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p class=\"MM_onlineOnly\" title=\"CCI Online Only\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/newsletters\/hookem\/\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">MORE: Subscribe to the Statesman&#8217;s Texas sports newsletter<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MM_onlineOnly\" title=\"CCI Online Only\">Harmon, who joined <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/sports\/college\/longhorns\/womens-basketball\/article\/madison-booker-texas-sec-tournament-21962261.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">teammates Madison Booker<\/a> and Justice Carlton on the all-tournament team, remarked Sunday that &#8220;I&#8217;m glad he didn&#8217;t have to take his jacket off.&#8221; But she felt Schaefer\u2019s intact wardrobe was a sign of his belief in the players.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I felt like every game, we came out ready to go,\u201d Harmon said. \u201cI think you can see it on his face that he has a trust factor in his team to get stuff done. &#8230; We felt really composed this whole tournament, we felt like we were in control a lot of the\u00a0time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/sports\/college\/longhorns\/womens-basketball\/article\/texas-womens-basketball-ncaa-tournament-1-seed-21949329.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">shoo-in for a No. 1 seed<\/a>, Texas (31-3) now awaits word from the NCAA Tournament&#8217;s selection committee about its first-round opponent and potential path to the Phoenix-hosted Final Four.
