The Public Works Department has launched the public access survey to gather input and feedback from the community. This task is a key step in updating the Arlington\u2019s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan and creating the City\u2019s first comprehensive Sidewalk Master Plan.<\/p>\n

Purpose and Scope of the Project<\/p>\n

This survey represents the next phase of the City\u2019s broader effort to enhance accessibility, connectivity, pedestrian mobility and remove barriers throughout the City of Arlington. The purpose of providing this survey is to:<\/p>\n


\nEncourage community engagement
\nUpdate the ADA Transition Plan
\nDevelop a Sidewalk Master Plan
\nUnderstand challenge and barriers resident and visitors encounter with city facilities, pedestrian facilities, programs, services and activities.
\nIdentify changes that may be needed to the City\u2019s programs, services and activities to remove barriers and be more accessible.
\nIdentifying and prioritizing future sidewalk improvement projects <\/p>\n

An ADA Transition Plan is a required document that identifies barriers and accessibility issues with the city\u2019s facilities, pedestrian facilities, programs, service, and activities. Also, it outlines how and when those barriers will be removed to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.<\/p>\n

The Sidewalk Master Plan will use the data collected to create a long-term, citywide strategy for improving and expanding pedestrian infrastructure. This will help the City to deliver high-impact improvements where they are most needed\u2014making the city more walkable and inclusive for all.<\/p>\n

Survey Schedule<\/p>\n

The survey is currently available until April 30, 2026.<\/p>\n

Community Engagement Opportunities<\/p>\n

The City of Arlington recognizes that input from residents is vital to the success of this initiative. To ensure transparency and encourage public involvement, the city will engage with the community in a variety of ways:<\/p>\n


\nPartnering with the Mayor\u2019s Committee on People with Disabilities
\nLaunching a project website
\nProviding interactive mapping tools
\nDistributing online surveys
\nHosting community public meetings <\/p>\n

These efforts aim to gather feedback and ensure the final plans reflect the community\u2019s priorities and values.<\/p>\n

Building a More Accessible City<\/p>\n

The redevelopment of Arlington\u2019s ADA Transition Plan\u2014along with the creation of the Sidewalk Master Plan\u2014will allow the City to better serve all residents by creating a safer, more connected, and more accessible environment.
