HARRIS COUNTY, Texas \u2014 A 20-year-old Harris County man is in custody after threatening to “bomb” Highway 290, according to court documents.<\/p>\n
Jeremiah Chavez is charged with unlawful possession of explosive components, a third-degree felony.<\/p>\n
According to Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman’s Office, they responded to an address on Bronze Leaf Drive in a Cypress neighborhood just north of US 290 and inside the Grand Parkway on Monday night around 10 p.m.<\/p>\n
Authorities said a caller from the location said he was planning to detonate explosive devices and conduct a mass shooting.<\/p>\n
When authorities got to the home, they said they found a rifle, a lot of ammunition, and “bomb-making components.” Chavez was arrested at the scene.<\/p>\n
According to court documents, during a search of the house, investigators found:<\/p>\n

They said Chavez was planning to combine the elements to build an explosive weapon and target the freeway. According to court documents, Chavez also threatened to blow up his family’s home.<\/p>\n
Chavez made his initial probable cause court appearance on Tuesday morning. According to court records, his bond is set at $250,000. His first formal court appearance is set for Wednesday.<\/p>\n
