They fry it right then, and when you receive it, it will definitely be hot and good.\u201d<\/p>\n \u25aa What else to know: Nana \u2014 aka Toshia Ramsey \u2014 has been serving up soul food on the east side for about eight years now. Not long after the restaurant opened, Eats Beat columnist Bud Kennedy called Nana\u2019s \u201cone of the best\u201d for great home-cooking<\/a>. Of course, loyal customers already knew that, flocking in for hearty meatloaf and smothered pork chops. Nana\u2019s was recently called the best soul food in Texas<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWith sides such as old-school Velveeta mac-and-cheese or greens with ham hocks, a Nana\u2018s dinner can turn into a family dinner,\u201d Kennedy wrote. Other entrees ($18 to $23) include chicken fired chicken, country fried steak, catfish (whole or filet) and fried shrimp. Those come with two sides, including black-eyed peas, cabbage, sweet corn or mashed potatoes. The menu also has wings.<\/p>\n On Sundays, Nana\u2019s serves up chicken and waffles, beef tips and rice, smothered turkey wings and oxtail.<\/p>\n And just last month, the restaurant started serving Saturday brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.<\/p>\n Be sure to look for weekly specials, which they post frequently to their 29,000 followers on Facebook<\/a> and on Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n Nana\u2019s Kitchen is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
