CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Three members of the Corpus Christi City Council are requesting an agenda item to discuss a petition seeking the removal of Mayor Paulette Guajardo.

According to a council action request filed with the City Secretary’s Office and obtained by 3NEWS, council members Carolyn Vaughn, Gil Hernandez and Eric Cantu asked that the item be placed on the March 24, 2026 City Council agenda.

The document requests a discussion and possible action on an Aug. 29, 2025 petition filed by Rachel Caballero seeking the mayor’s removal from office.

The council members are asking the city to determine whether any formal proceedings should begin under Article II, Section 11 of the Corpus Christi City Charter, which outlines the process for removing an elected official.

The request was submitted Wednesday to Rebecca Huerta and copied to the mayor, City Manager Peter Zanoni and City Attorney Miles Risley.

If the item is placed on the agenda, council members would discuss whether to begin formal removal proceedings outlined in the city charter.

The request does not remove the mayor, but instead begins the process of determining whether the petition warrants further action.
