You never know who you might run into in Fort Worth. Usually Joe T. Garcia\u2019s in the Stockyards<\/a> gets all the celebrities, but this week, it was a West Seventh St. coffee shop that played host to a famous touring musician.<\/p>\n

Pop star Conan Gray made a stop<\/a> at Fort Worth\u2019s Match Point Coffee<\/a> Monday, March 9, before his Dickies Arena performance on his Wishbone World Tour<\/a> Tuesday, March 10. The coffee shop also sold exclusive Conan Gray merchandise before the show Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Who is Conan Gray?<\/p>\n

Though Gray was born in California, the 27-year-old singer and songwriter spent a majority of his upbringing in Georgetown. He started posting video blogs of his life in the Austin suburb as well as covers of songs on YouTube<\/a> in 2013.<\/p>\n

In 2018, he played hooky from class at Georgetown High School to record what would be his first viral song, called \u201cIdle Town<\/a>.\u201d The song\u2019s YouTube video now has more than 22 million views and more than 111 million streams on Spotify.<\/p>\n

The hit single reflects Gray\u2019s life as a teenager in a small \u201cidle\u201d town.<\/p>\n

\u201cKilling time at the yellow cafe (In our idle town),\u201d the song goes. \u201cAnd curfew\u2019s at midnight. Yeah, I think that we\u2019ll all be okay (In our idle town). The idle town will stay as it stays.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shortly after, Republic Records signed Gray, and he released his first EP \u201cSunset Season,\u201d which led to him opening for Grammy Award-winning band Panic! At The Disco.<\/p>\n

Fast-forward to today, Gray is a multi-platinum songwriter and is on his own world tour for his \u201cWishbone\u201d album<\/a>, which is his fourth studio record.<\/p>\n

Gray performed at Fort Worth\u2019s Dickies Arena on March 10.<\/p>\n

\u201cFort Worth :\u2019) thank you for the big Texan welcome home,\u201d he wrote on his Instagram story after the show<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019ve missed you. I\u2019ve missed sweet tea. I\u2019ve missed hearing that warm southern accent. Love you bigger than the Texas sky.\u201d<\/p>\n

What does Conan Gray sing about?<\/p>\n

Many of Gray\u2019s songs reflect his life in Texas.<\/p>\n

A 2024 single, \u201cHoliday,\u201d talks about a classic Austin-based breakfast spot.<\/p>\n

\u201cTook a flight back to Texas just like every year, We barely talk, but our friendship can\u2019t disappear,\u201d the song references<\/a>. \u201cAt Kerbey Lane, the coffee tastes like gasoline. Could you order some for me?\u201d<\/p>\n

Another song, \u201cGrow,\u201d recounts leaving Georgetown<\/a> to move to Los Angeles where there are \u201cconcrete and zooming street signs.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the song \u201cConnell\u201d from his most recent \u201cWishbone\u201d album, Gray refers to the differences in upbringings between him and his love interest.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m from Texas skies, you\u2019re from London street,\u201d he sings in the song.<\/a><\/p>\n

Gray will make his last Texas stop on the \u201cWishbone Tour\u201d at The Toyota Center in Houston on March 11.<\/p>\n
