Arlington Water Utilities has released its 2025 Year-End report, which highlights the accomplishments of the City of Arlington water and wastewater services provider. Water Department Director Alex Whiteway presented the report to the Arlington City Council at their afternoon meeting on March 10th. It is available online here:<\/p>\n
In the report, Whiteway praises the highly trained employees who are committed to innovating the city\u2019s water systems with new technologies, helping Arlington Water Utilities stand out as one of the best water systems in Texas.<\/p>\n
\u201cCity leaders, including the Arlington City Council and the City Manager, encourage the innovation and commitment that make this utility a model for other water systems across Texas. Our spirit of innovation also drives Arlington Water Utilities to seek new solutions to old problems,\u201d Whiteway says. He added:\u201cThe coming year promises to be an exciting one for the American Dream City. In 2026, Arlington Water Utilities will continue to serve residents with the dedication that makes it stand out among Texas utilities as one of the best\u201d<\/p>\n

\nArlington Water Utilities is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of more than $7.4 billion in infrastructure throughout the City, including two water treatment plants, 10 elevated water storage tanks, 1,265 miles of sanitary sewer mains, 1,478 miles of water mains, and 24,529 water valves.\u00a0
\nArlington Water Utilities has been recognized for The Outstanding Public Drinking Water System Award and The Public Drinking System Award by The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. These awards are given to Texas water system that go \u201cabove and beyond the minimum stands in protecting public health and ensuring reliable operation.\u201d
\nArlington Water Utilities has implemented two new leak detection methods for water conservation in City water distribution systems. Arlington Water\u2019s new team member Splash is a leak detection canine who uses his strong sense of smell to detect small amounts of chlorine in treating water to find leaks around the city. The City of Arlington water department has also conducted pilot programs with two satellite leak detection companies. These companies scan the entire city with satellites to detect underground moisture levels and temperature variation in a target flight path to identify potential leaks around the city
\n\u00a0In March 2025, Arlington Water Utilities welcomed the first class of Arlington Water Utilities University. The five-week citizens academy is designed to give residents an inside look at how water reaches their home and to meet the hard-working, well-trained individuals involved with the process. Participants tour both water treatment plants and take part in interactive activities to learn more about the challenges and rewards of working in the water and wastewater industry.
