Sweet Sugar High has come a long way, as Hernandez plans to open a restaurant at 904 W. Northside Drive in north Fort Worth.<\/p>\n
The burger truck is arguably the \u201cbest burger truck in Fort Worth.\u201d<\/p>\n
Star-Telegram readers voted them as the best food truck burger<\/a> in town in 2022. Then, Sweet Sugar High won second in Trey Chapman\u2019s 2025 Cowtown Burger Showdown<\/a>. And again last year, the food truck was awarded as the best food truck in both Fort Worth Weekly and Fort Worth Magazine.<\/p>\n Fernandez is a self-taught chef who always had a dream of going to culinary school. He and his wife, Catherine, originally started by selling barbecue. But one day they tried out burgers, and the customers kept asking for more.<\/p>\n The Star-Telegram reported in 2022 that the couple\u2019s dream was to one day open a brick-and-mortar store.<\/p>\n It all began in their cleared-out living room. Then, a zip-up tent. Then a food truck trailer. And now, their dream comes true.<\/p>\n Customers used to have to stay up-to-date with the food truck\u2019s socials<\/a> to see where they would pop up next.<\/p>\n Sweet Sugar High\u2019s final days at The Fork Yard,<\/a> a food truck court in the Jennings-May St. Louis neighborhood, will be on Thursday, March 12 and Friday, March 13 from 6 to 10 p.m. both days.<\/p>\n Starting March 18, the truck will be permanently parked at 904 W. Northside Drive, out in front of their brick-and-mortar location, which is in the process of being remodeled.<\/p>\n \u201cIt needs a lot of work,\u201d Hernandez says about the beat up and abandoned auto body shop that will eventually be his restaurant.<\/p>\n He plans to open the restaurant in an 800-square foot main space, have an office in the 400-square foot adjacent space, and blend the two with covered patio and seating.<\/p>\n A soft opening timeline will be released soon.<\/p>\n Despite the dessert-sounding name, Sweet Sugar High sells<\/a> popular double patty smashedburgers.<\/p>\n The burgers are made from wagyu beef or 80\/20 beef with melty American cheese and secret sauce on a brioche bun.
