{"id":202229,"date":"2026-03-13T01:08:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-13T01:08:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/202229\/"},"modified":"2026-03-13T01:08:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T01:08:13","slug":"candidates-for-grand-prairie-city-council-runoff-election-outline-priorities-experience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/202229\/","title":{"rendered":"Candidates for Grand Prairie City Council runoff election outline priorities, experience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two candidates for Grand Prairie City Council Place 8, an at large seat, are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallascountyvotes.org\/voters\/election\/march-14-2026-grand-prairie-special-runoff-election\/\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">headed for a runoff election<\/a> March 14.<\/p>\n<p>The seat is currently held by Mayor Pro Tem Junior Ezeonu, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2026\/03\/04\/3-arlington-area-state-races-on-tuesdays-primary-ballots\/\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">who recently defeated incumbent Chris Turner<\/a> in the Democratic primary for Texas House District 101.<\/p>\n<p>Rodney Anderson and Ana Coca are in the running for the city council position, both noting their deep roots in Grand Prairie.<\/p>\n<p>During the 2010s, Anderson represented Texas State House District 106 and later House District 105. He\u2019s a former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2019\/05\/21\/former-texas-rep-rodney-anderson-elected-chairman-of-dallas-county-republican-party\/\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">chairman of the Dallas County Republican Party<\/a> and a longtime title insurance professional.<\/p>\n<p>Anderson told KERA that after his time in public office and as Dallas GOP chair, \u201cOther than that, I&#8217;ve been in the private sector. I&#8217;ve not been involved in politics in the last five or six years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Coca is an educator and community advocate. She previously served on the city\u2019s Planning and Zoning Commission and is currently a member of the Zoning Board of Adjustments and Appeals.<\/p>\n<p>When asked what voters&#8217; top priorities are going into the election, both pointed to infrastructure. <\/p>\n<p>Coca also emphasized her ability to serve both English and Spanish speaking residents, while Anderson said he\u2019s focused on local issues including public safety.<\/p>\n<p>Coca told KERA her top priorities are \u201cdefinitely roads, infrastructure, making sure that we do not forget the north side of Grand Prairie Central, because I know there&#8217;s a lot of growth down in the south, but definitely making sure we don&#8217;t leave anybody behind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anderson said he&#8217;s heard from voters, &#8220;The biggest issues are&#8230;basic public safety, and you hear infrastructure, and then accountability and transparency.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>With a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gptx.org\/Government\/Bond-Election-2026\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">bond election on the ballot in May<\/a>, voters will weigh in on a proposed fund package totaling $327 million. The bond election features three propositions residents can vote yes or no on: street improvements, public safety resources and parks facilities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gov.texas.gov\/news\/post\/governor-abbott-appoints-three-to-judicial-compensation-commission-\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Governor Greg Abbott appointed Anderson<\/a> to the Judicial Compensation Commission in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Current House Rep. Terry Meza, who defeated Anderson\u2019s re-election bid in 2018, endorsed Coca, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/1E6iSak5mZ\/\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">writing in a social media post<\/a>, \u201cAna has spent decades serving Grand Prairie as an educator, advocate for families, and community leader. She\u2019s ready to bring that experience and commitment to City Hall.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Early voting ended March 10. Grand Prairie voters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gptx.org\/Departments\/City-Secretary\/Elections\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">head to the polls Saturday<\/a> for the election at a variety of locations in town.<\/p>\n<p>Got a tip?
