GUNTER, Texas \u2014 With a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, March 12, BNSF Railway and officials in the town of Gunter marked the start of work on the railroad\u2019s new Logistics Center North Dallas<\/a>, a 944-acre industrial park an hour north of Dallas.<\/p>\n Construction of the first phase of the approximately $500 million project is expected to take about 19 months.<\/p>\n \u201cGunter is well-placed in one of the fastest\u2011growing corridors in the country, and this new logistics center positions our customers to take full advantage of that momentum,\u201d said Scot Bates, BNSF assistant vice president of economic development and real estate, in a press release<\/a>. \u201cBy offering direct rail service and a ready\u2011to\u2011build site, we\u2019re helping customers expand their supply-chain reach faster and more efficiently.\u201d<\/p>\n BNSF had announced plans for the facility in mid-2023, but withdrew its initial rezoning request in the face of local opposition. The city and railroad reached an agreement to proceed with the development last year after BNSF added a buffer zone between the facility and existing homes in the town of 2,000 [see \u201cBNSF, Texas town reach agreement \u2026,\u201d<\/a> Trains.com, July 11, 2025].<\/p>\n \u201cThis groundbreaking represents an important step for Gunter\u2019s future,\u201d Gunter Mayor Karen Souther said Thursday. \u201cGetting here required hard conversations, meaningful collaboration, and a commitment from everyone involved to find a path that will protect our community while creating opportunities.
