CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – A new addition to the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport is helping business to take off.<\/p>\n
Since adding flights to Dallas, Texas, in December, airport leaders say they are seeing a higher number of passengers compared to the last three years.<\/p>\n
Airport Manager Jojo Stuart said this time of year is usually slow for the airport, but the Dallas flights are changing that.<\/p>\n
\u201cDallas really opens up a lot with the connectivity to the West Coast, so a lot of the warmer regions in the wintertime. So that\u2019s been what\u2019s really pushed our numbers so far this winter,\u201d said Stuart<\/p>\n
The airport now offers five flights to Dallas each week out of Cape Girardeau. <\/p>\n
Stuart said they\u2019ve had no trouble filling seats on the new flights.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019ve been great. We\u2019re having a load factor right now of 78%. So it\u2019s been a huge success so far.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stuart said the success is good for the airport\u2019s future, which could lead to conversations about adding more destinations.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously, we want to grow and add more flights for the people in the region,\u201d said Stuart. \u201cIt\u2019s a lot easier to fly out of here if you live around here than having to drive to St. Louis or Memphis or Nashville. They\u2019re definitely helping our numbers and making us look better for potential airlines.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stuart expects the summer months to be busy as well.<\/p>\n
Starting May 6, Cape Girardeau Regional Airport will also offer seasonal flights to Pensacola, Florida. That service will run through September 7.<\/p>\n
