Broadnax outlining a five-point action plan designed to protect civil rights and seek accountability during federal law enforcement operations in Austin.<\/p>\n<p>The memo came following feedback from community members, including tense moments at a recent community meeting, where Austinites expressed frustration over the Austin Police Department&#8217;s (APD) cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the points highlighted in the memo include making sure law enforcement uses de-escalation protocols, responding to reports of warrantless searches, reporting unlawful conduct by federal agents, prohibiting law enforcement from wearing face coverings and expanding education on rights and access to legal representation.<\/p>\n<p>The memo asks that the City Manager evaluate and report back within 30 days on actions the city can take within its legal authority to strengthen protections for residents.<\/p>\n<p>The full memo from the councilmembers can be read <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.austintexas.gov\/austincouncilforum\/0F-20260372110813.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The memo came following feedback from community members, including frustration over APD&#8217;s cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.
