Birmingham, Alabama \u2013\u00a0The UNT men’s basketball team lost in triple overtime in the American Conference Championship quarterfinals Friday afternoon with a 90-84 defeat to the No. 3 seed Tulsa.

\nThe Mean Green (19-14) were led in scoring by Je’Shawn Stevenson<\/a> who played 44 minutes and finished with 21 points and was 10-10 at the free throw line. He though was outdone by the Golden Hurricane’s (26-6) Tylen Riley who finished with 26 points and was 17-17 at the free throw line.

\nStevenson was one of four UNT players in double figures. David Terrell Jr.<\/a> played a team-high 48 minutes and scored 17 points to go along with five assists. Cole Franklin<\/a> matched his single game career high with three made 3-pointers as he finished with 15 points and Buddy Hammer Jr.<\/a> came off the bench and matched his career high with 12 points.

\n“If there was a way I wanted to go out it would have been like that,” said North Texas head coach Daniyal Robinson<\/a>. “Our guys left it all out on the floor and gave it their all. Credit to Tulsa, of course, they’re a great team.”

\nFriday’s game lasted just under four hours. It was UNT’s fourth triple overtime game in program history and its first since 2009.
