{"id":207362,"date":"2026-03-16T22:05:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-16T22:05:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/207362\/"},"modified":"2026-03-16T22:05:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-16T22:05:10","slug":"mau-p-at-the-concourse-project-in-austin-texas-show-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/207362\/","title":{"rendered":"Mau P at The Concourse Project in Austin Texas: Show Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAs strong winds picked up in Austin, Texas in the afternoon of March 15, myriad outdoor events at SXSW 2026 were cancelled or moved as increasingly hectic gusts ripped across town.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAmong these pivots was Mau P\u2019s performance at Billboard Presents THE STAGE at SXSW, with this show at Austin\u2019s Moody Amphitheater being cancelled, then moved city\u2019s revered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/t\/dance\/\" id=\"auto-tag_dance\" data-tag=\"dance\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dance<\/a> venue The Concourse Project. As a function of this pivot, the show \u2014 the third and final THE STAGE event of the weekend after performances by Don Toliver and Junior H \u2014 went from being a ticketed event to a free one. The announcement advised that The Concourse Project would accommodate fans on a first-come, first-served basis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe news was announced at approximately 6:00 p.m., local time. By 6:13, the first devotees were in line at The Concourse Project, with this line eventually snaking around the block, as thousands of people assembled for a chance to see the show. Ultimately, thousands of them did, with the crowd packing the venue after doors opened at 9:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe hustle was warranted. All three of the artists from Sunday\u2019s Moody Amphitheater lineup made the move to The Concourse Project, a venue operated by <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/pro\/seismic-dance-event-austin-founders-interview\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/pro\/seismic-dance-event-austin-founders-interview\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Austin-based production company RealMusicEvents<\/a> that was founded by locals Kelly Gray and Andrew Parsons more than 15 years ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tTexas producer Austin Ashtin opened the show with his original productions and bouncy edits of classics like Ciara\u2019s \u201c1, 2 Step.\u201d Ashtin was followed by Houston\u2019s Apex Martin, who played a cool, inventive set made up largely of his own \u201cHouston house\u201d tracks, with the show altogether demonstrating his agility and charisma behind the decks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHeadliner Mau P took over at midnight, after signing a poster-sized version of his <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/features\/mau-p-radiohead-sxsw-billboard-cover-story-interview-1236192879\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/features\/mau-p-radiohead-sxsw-billboard-cover-story-interview-1236192879\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">current Billboard cover<\/a> and receiving a cake (flavor: funfetti) with this same cover image printed on its frosting. The show was Mau\u2019s third of the weekend after sets at Club Darc in San Francisco on Friday and XS in Las Vegas on Saturday \u2014 but if fatigue was a factor, Mau signaled only energy and swagger, instantly taking control of the room and inciting a huge cheer among the crowd who\u2019d braved the bitingly cold wind to see the Dutch producer.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/wp-content\/themes\/vip\/pmc-billboard-2021\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Billboard-Mau-P-SXSW2026.jpeg\" alt=\"Mau P performs at The Concourse Project in Austin, Texas on March 15, 2026\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"683\" width=\"1024\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tMau P performs at The Concourse Project in Austin, Texas on March 15, 2026<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tDusana<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe effort was well rewarded, with Mau playing squarely in the funky, sexy, sophisticated and truly danceable pocket that\u2019s become his calling card since he exploded onto the scene with 2022\u2019s \u201cDrugs From Amsterdam,\u201d a track that dropped well into the second hour of Mau\u2019s two-hour show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBefore that, he played a litany of music that included a clever edit of Kanye\u2019s all-timer \u201cMercy\u201d and his own heaters, including \u201cLike I Like It,\u201d \u201cneck\u201d and \u201cMerther\u201d \u2014 the latter of which saw most everyone in the venue thrust their hands in the air and shout \u201cout in the streets, they call it muuuuuurder!\u201d in sync with Ini Kamoze\u2019s classic vocal from his 1984 original \u201cWorld-A-Reggae.\u201d Overall, Mau took his time letting mixes build, extending a teasing, slow burn style that exemplified restraint and good taste, and always paid off when the beat dropped.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWith the night feeling distinctly hyped because of the pop-up nature of the show, the crowd was friendly, loose and fully in synch with the music, with The Concourse Project\u2019s ace staff ensuring the vibe was always fully PLUR. While Sunday was a school night for many in attendance, the crowd had barely dispersed as the clock ticked on toward 2 a.m., when Mau played \u201cDrugs From Amsterdam,\u201d \u201cTesla,\u201d his breezy official remix of Tame Impala\u2019s \u201cThe Less I Know The Better\u201d \u2014 and then, delightfully, an edit of Technotronic\u2019s 1989 all-timer \u201cPump Up the Jam\u201d followed by Modjo\u2019s 2001 French Touch essential \u201cLady (Hear Me Tonight)\u201d, during which everyone from front to back was basically either spinning around in circles or singing at the top of their lungs in a moment of genuine bliss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe night was altogether defined by a stars aligning kind of feel, as Mau P and his team \u2014\u00a0along with teams from The Concourse Project and Billboard \u2014\u00a0came together to pull off the show.
