Every year on March 17th, something extra fun happens in Lubbock. For one friggin’ glorious day, a huge portion of our population suddenly discovers they are actually a little bit Irish. Sometimes a distant relative mentions it, sometimes it’s just because you own a green pair of shorts.<\/p>\n
However it starts, St. Patrick\u2019s Day in Lubbock tends to unfold in a very predictable order.<\/p>\n
Step One: Someone Mentions Green BeerPhoto by Patrick Fore<\/a> on Unsplash<\/a><\/p>\n When a bar advertises green beer, people show up. Nobody questions why it’s green or what made it that color. Some people swear it tastes different, while others insist it’s just food coloring. Either way, the keg is getting tapped.<\/p>\n Step Two: Everyone Digs Up Some Green Clothes To WearPhoto by Magdalena Smolnicka<\/a> on Unsplash<\/a><\/p>\n The whole city is trading black and red for green today. Some of you might even be rocking an entire costume. We show up and show out for beer. Someone will eventually attempt an Irish accent. Nobody knows where to get it, except for their folks’ house, and they’ve been in bed for hours.
