The further along Jason Robertson\u2019s stellar season goes, the more talk there is about his soon-to-be expiring contract.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old who currently leads the Stars in points is set to become a restricted free agent after this season, unless he and his longtime team can reach an agreement on an extension. Talks between the two sides slowed to a standstill before the start of the season<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Since then, Robertson has built a pretty strong case for himself being deserving of a new deal. And it seems, publicly at least, that Stars general manager Jim Nill agrees.<\/p>\n

Nill recently sat down with \u201cNHL Tonight: First Shift\u201d where he discussed the state of his team (currently preparing for a pivotal matchup against the Avalanche<\/a>), and the GM was asked about the state of contract talks with Robertson.<\/p>\n

Robertson, who\u2019s putting together his best year statistically since the 2022-23 season, is a \u201cpriority\u201d for Dallas this offseason, Nill says.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a big part of our team,\u201d Nill said. \u201cHe\u2019s one of the leading scorers in the league, he\u2019s really in the prime of his career. He\u2019s a big part of our team, so a priority for us is to get him signed this summer, and move on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Robertson is first on the Stars in points with 80 and second on the team in goals (36) behind Wyatt Johnston. <\/p>\n

He recently changed agents<\/a>, switching to Andy Scott of Octagon, with whom Nill has a recent history of reaching long-term deals.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started discussions with Jason last summer, so we\u2019ve kept in touch,\u201d Nill told First Shift. \u201cIn the end we decided, let\u2019s table this. Let\u2019s go have a good year, have a good playoff, and we\u2019ll make this work.\u201d<\/p>\n

That seems to be coming to fruition, both for Robertson and the Stars, with Dallas on the verge of clinching another playoff spot<\/a> thanks in large part to the forward\u2019s contributions.<\/p>\n
