MISSOURI CITY, Texas \u2013 Emergency crews responded to a crash involving an Amtrak passenger train and an 18-wheeler in Missouri City on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
93 passengers and 11 crew members were reportedly on board the train when it crashed. <\/p>\n
Amtrak officials also confirmed the Amtrak was traveling from Los Angeles to New Orleans.<\/p>\n
The collision occurred at around 11:10 a.m. Tuesday morning near the intersection of U.S. 90 and Cravens Road, not far from Fondren Road and the South Sam Houston Parkway.<\/p>\n
The crash resulted in a small fire and a diesel leak.<\/p>\n
Missouri City Fire Chief Mario Partida told KPRC 2 that two people were treated at the scene for minor medical emergencies. Missouri City Police Department later confirmed that there were a few minor injuries treated at the scene.<\/p>\n
At the time of the crash, the truck was at the stop sign located on Cravens Road, and he was attempting to turn right onto the highway. However, his truck\u2019s load was still on the tracks as the Amtrak approached, and the driver wasn\u2019t able to move his trailer in time.<\/p>\n
The crossing arm was working and activated at the time of the crash, MCPD confirmed.<\/p>\n
The driver of the truck has been cited for being stopped on the railroad tracks. He also received a warning for improperly securing the load he was hauling.<\/p>\n
The collision also caused power outages in the Missouri City area. According to CenterPoint Energy, 550 customers were impacted, and 280 remain without power Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

A short time later, officials were seen leading a crowd onto a responding METRO bus. <\/p>\n

KPRC 2\u2019s Bryce Newberry<\/a> later confirmed from METRO officials <\/a>that the buses were staged to help Amtrak passengers displaced by the crash.<\/p>\n The crash involved a truck and load with \u201cHub Group\u201d branding.<\/p>\n the scene of the wreck (KPRC 2)<\/p>\n A short time later, Amtrak released the following statement:<\/p>\n On March 17, 2026, Amtrak Train 2 was traveling from Los Angeles to New Orleans at about 11:10 a.m. CT when a vehicle came into contact with the train on Union Pacific Railroad tracks near Houston. There have been no reports of serious injuries to the approximately 93 passengers or to the 11 crew members onboard.<\/p>\n As a precaution, customers were moved off of the train.
